She was a performer, designer and singer and broke the boundaries of the field of music. Her function as a Mexican American star was both modern and traditional. She brought Tejano into mainstream culture in an innovative way. Her name was rising to fame but her sudden death broke it. As is the norm the case when a talented, charismatic and promising artist dies early, people mourned her talent and potential which she had not yet reached. Fans have been inspired over time to dig and work harder to make sure her accomplishments won't be lost in the dust. Selena's tragic death by shooting resulted in a reaction within the Latino Community, similar as the reaction to deaths of Elvis Presley or John Lennon. Selena was an extremely well-known Latino singer throughout North America. Her music transcended cultural barriers and inspired both teenagers and the older generation. She was a flamboyant, sexually attractive stage performer often referred to as the Latina Madonna Selena was nonetheless seen as a role model on stage she was a family-oriented involved in anti-drug initiatives and AIDS awareness programmes.
